Wow. If in the Newton-Wellesley area (or anywhere near), make plans to dine in this gem of a restaurant. My husband and I had an amazing meal which included a sushi appetizer, a pasta dish and a marinated steak and Caesar salad that was superb. The menu includes about 6 entrees which always tells me the restaurant wants to excel at a handful of dishes and I was not wrong here. The restaurant is somewhat unassuming looking, tucked in a busy corner but don’t let that fool you. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about each dish and the wines and answered all our questions with warmth and a sense of humor. Turns...
Stunningly good food. The menu always reads as something a little bit "out there" - so the half-dozen times I've been, perusing ahead of time makes me think it's going to be dud. But it's SO good. The chef(s) are geniuses. It's always beyond comprehension how good the food is. Laid back place; small; hard to get a reservation; walk-in is very difficult.
My wife and I had a truly exceptional meal. The salads deserve specific praise. The Allandale salad was one of the best salads I have had in my life. The ingredients were super fresh. The peaches were perfect. The almonds added a tangy crunch. We also had an heirloom tomato salad. Again, it was divine. They avoid a big mistake by serving the tomatoes at room temperature. It did not come out of a fridge. Discard any Boston-area best restaurant list that does not include Sycamore. The author has not done their homework!
So this place is just wonderful. I went on a date night with my husband. They even have an outside eating area with temperature controlled lantern lights that is like a fireplace but tall . The staff is beyond friendly. They make you feel so comfortable like you’re eating at a friend’s house . But only your friend is rich because the food is of high caliber as are the drinks . This place is in the town I live in . I will definitely be back . I hope you have the opportunity to visit .
We stopped in for dinner at Sycamore knowing little more than it well thought of by TripAdvisor patrons. The outdoor dining atmosphere was relaxing and the service was quite attentive. The food was pleasant but not especially memorable.
I used to enjoy this restaurant, but my last visit was a disappointment. Our family of 3 dined pre-theatre mid-week so a little on the early side. Every appetizer and entree ordered was too salty, not tasty, and just very average, or worse than average. We had a variety of dishes and I would recommend none of them. It's sad as this used to be a good restaurant. Now it feels very overpriced for sub-par food. They need a new chef.
The food was very flavorful and the wait staff kind and attentive. Atmosphere was quaint, in door seating and outdoor. The Gaucho mocktail complimented the Baba Ghanoush starter. Lamb Skewer with tomato jam was top notch!
I never really like to write a bad review for a restaurant in my life, but I have to make an exception for this place. Will have to agree with all the 1 star review left here. I felt sick after eating the grilled green circle chicken. It was so so salty that I thought I had some sort of salt poisoning. I felt nauseous and had numbness in my hands and feet and had to leave my friend to go home immediately. Can the chef please taste everything before he/ she serves the food? I had such high expectation from the high ratings from Google and Tripadvisor but this is such a letdown.
We love sitting at the bar, so don't get discouraged if that's all that is available when you make a reservation (a must). The bartender is a conversationalist while, at the same time, fast and creative e when it comes to drinks and to selecting the perfect wine for the dinner menu, which is always changing.
Another birthday, and another time to eat at Sycamore. A little noisy (which they could fix), but the food, service, and ambiance were all top-rate. MOdest menu (size) gives you options for fish, poultry, meat, etc. And the steak, which I had, was superb. This is a special place for any occasion.
